Viluchinsky volcano

Viluchinsky volcano is situated to the south-west of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski. The volcano is extinct. It rises for 2,175 m. above the sea-level.

In winter, it is a good place for alpine skiing and snowboarding. In the southeast of the foot there are hot springs. In summer, you can see a beautiful 40-meter waterfall at the foot (in winter it freezes completely). The peak of the volcano is cut in the west and you can see huge rocks, with ice and granular snow in between. Lava and pyroclastics flows that constitute these rocks make a multi-coloured landscape. Probable these varying colours are the result of the fumaroles activity of the active volcanic phase. Volcano slopes are riddled with deep ravines, descending radially from the top or from the middle of the slope.
