Column monument to national heros
Opposite the building of the Volga Shipping Company is a monumental monument to three sailors dedicated to the heroes of the Volga Flotilla. A commemorative monument in the square is dedicated to the heroes of the civil war - the river Volga river fleet. Nizhny Novgorod due to its geographical location was not involved in the fighting of the Great Patriotic War, therefore in it, unlike the cities of western Russia, there are not so many monuments to its heroes. But Nizhny Novgorod is rich in memory of the Civil War. An example of this is the monument to the heroes of the Volga Military Flotilla. He immortalized the memory of the heroes of the events of the summer of 1918. Then the front, along which the line of confrontation of White Guards with the Red Army troops passed, approached the borders of the Nizhny Novgorod province. For more effective actions, it was decided to form the Volga Military Flotilla from civil courts. Its command included Commissioner N. G. Markin, who died heroically in one of the battles during the raid along the Volga and Kama. In honor of him called the square opposite the River Station, which bears his name to this day. Later on it was erected a monument in memory of the exploits of the Volga Military Flotilla. |
