VIVACELLO is the only festival in our country dedicated to cello music. It was created in 2008 thanks to the initiative of the famous cellist Boris Andrianov and the support of the cultural and charity foundation Iveta and Tamaz Manasherovs U-Art: You and art. Since that time every autumn in Moscow there have been bright events connected with the cello: concerts of chamber and symphonic music, installations, crossovers, theatrical productions, presentations. Every year the festival VIVACELLO pleases listeners with world premieres.
The uniqueness of the festival is that the cello is represented in completely different ways: it sounds with a jazz band and a guitar, accompanied by an orchestra and video art, in theatrical productions. VIVACELLO fully reveals the versatility of the instrument, which Mstislav Rostropovich always stressed and proved.
Boris Andrianov (cello, artistic director of the festival)
Boris Andrianov is one of the most gifted Russian musicians of his generation. He has gained his reputation thanks to his successful performances at: the XI International Tschaikovsky Competition (Moscow, 1998)—the third prize and a bronze medal; International Cello Antonio Janigro Competition (Zagreb, Croatia) — the first prize and all the special prizes. Andrianov’s talent was recognized by well-known musicians, such as Mstislav Rostropovich and Daniil Shafran who said: “Boris Andrianov is probably one of the most talented cellists of Russia at present.” In 1997 Boris was the first Russian cellist to become a laureate at the VI International Rostropovich competition in Paris.
Boris Andrianov was born in 1976 in musicians family. He studied in Moscow Gnessins music school under the tutelage of professor V.Birina. As a boy of 16 he became a laureate at the First Tschaikovsky Competition for young musicians, while at 17 he won the Grand Prix at an International competition in South Africa.
In 1991 Boris was selected as a “New Names” artist and was granted an allowance. Together with other New Names musicians Boris toured Russia and the world with the presentations of the program. He had to perform to Pope John Paul II in Vatican, in Saint James palace in London, for the UNO in Geneva. After Boris had performed the Concert by Boccherini in the Berlin Philharmony with the orchestra conducted by D.Geringas Berlin newspaper “Berliner Tagesspiegel” published an article called “A Young God” on the 29th of April, 2001: “The young Russian student of the Hans Eisler Hochschule plays like a god: with heartbreaking, beautiful, softly-vibrating Belcanto-tone and masterly noblesse he turns an almost harmless Boccherini concerto into a small wonder of grace and discrete melancholy.”
In 2002 DELOS Record Label released his CD with music for cello and guitar (D.Illarionov). This recording was at the preliminary list for Grammy Award nomination. Boris played concerts in Russia (in The Big and the Small Halls of Moscow Conservatory, Moscow Philharmony Hall, Petersburg Philharmony), in Holland (Concert Gebau), in Japan (Tokyo Opera City), Germany (Berliner Philharmony,Alter Opera),Austria (Wiener Konzert Haus), Switzerland, USA, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, France,South Africa and others.
