Amazing Kamchatka

Kamchatka is the area where the beauty and grandeur of nature are breathtaking. Here time turns back and a great Pacific Ocean is replaced by majestic volcanoes. The heart begins to beat faster in anticipation of an unforgettable trip to this fantastic peninsula.

The Kamchatka peninsula lies nine time zones east of Moscow, jutting out into the northern Pacific. It has been considered so remote that it became known as Siberia’s Siberia. Connected to Asia by only a narrow bar of land covered with permafrost and swamps, most of the year it is almost impossible to reach Kamchatka by crossing that land bridge. Instead, access to Kamchatka is usually by air or ships crossing from the Asian mainland. It is easier to think of Kamchatka as an island, stretching from north to south for more than a thousand kilometers.

Kamchatka is a typical mountainous area with mountain ranges occupying more than two-thirds of the total territory. Kamchatka is a zone of intensive volcanic activity with about 150 volcanoes, 28 of which are active. The Klyuchevskaya Sopka, the highest volcano in Asia (4,750 m), with its perfectly symmetrical slopes, is a magnificent sight.

The Avachinskaya bay is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Its twisting coastline is cut by numerous small bays. Two spawning rivers flow into the bay. 32 species of fish inhabit its waters. Practically all the year round we can find here several species of sole, greenling, bullhead and halibut. Sea birds are rather numerous in the area. One can see seals in the bays at the entrance to the Avachinskaya bay. The seals are not afraid of people and let them approach rather close. Among big mammals, one can find killer whales. The waters of the Avachinskaya bay are rich in natural gifts – sea urchins and crabs.

The Starichkov Island is situated about 10 km (5,5 miles) from the entrance to the Avachinskaya bay. It got its name after small sea birds that nest there (Puffins). The Starichkov Island is a nature reserve which abounds in puffins, loons, cormorants and other waterfowl. Several nests of Steller’s Sea Eagle and a seal harem are situated on the island.

Day 3:

09:00 Transfer to the foothill of the Avachinskiy volcano by an all-terrain vehicle (about 2 hours). Arrival at the base camp, lunch, safety instructions before ascending the volcano. All tours to the Avachinskiy volcano start from the base camp situated at 890 m above sea level. The distance between PKC and the base camp is about 50 km.

The Avachinskiy volcano (2751 m) is one of the most active volcanoes in Kamchatka often called “home volcano” among its people. Its crater is filled with hardened lava above which you can see rising clouds of fumaroles.

11:30-14:30 Trekking to the Camel mountain (7 km = about 300 m elevation)

The Camel mountain is situated between the two volcanoes, Koryakskiy and Avachinskiy, and has the height of about 1200 meters. The trekking to the mountain takes about 3 hours and is not very difficult. From the top of the mountain you can see beautiful views of the Avachinskaya bay and the surroundings of Petropavlovsk and Elizovo, the Avacha river and valley.

Then we’ll drive to the Pacific coast and take a walk along the black volcanic sandy beach (15:30-18:30). The Khalaktyrskiy beach is a popular place among the citizens of Petropavlovsk. The long coastal line is covered with volcanic sand and in summer is full of blossoming flowers and bushes.

After the walk transfer to the hotel. Since 19:30 free time. Rest and bathe in hot thermal water swimming pool (in case of the hotel in Paratunka).

Accommodation in a hotel. Breakfast, lunch

Day 4:

10:00 transfer to the Bystraya river (about 2 hours). Lunch in a tent camp. 13:30-16:30 River floating with “catch-and-release” fishing (2,5 – 3 hours).

The Bystraya river, the second longest river in Kamchatka, flows along the southern slopes of the Sredinniy Ridge (Middle Ridge). It plays an important role in reproducing Pacific salmon. King salmon, Red salmon, Humpback salmon, Silver salmon and Sima spawn in the waters of the Bystraya river. Pacific Char and East Siberian Char are found here in great quantities as well as Grayling, Rainbow Trout and Atlantic salmon. Experienced guides and inflatable rafts are at your disposal.

16:30 Transfer to the Malkinskiye hot thermal springs. Bathe in the springs. The Malkinskiye hot thermal springs are situated in the valley of the Bystraya river, at a great thermal territory of underground natural springs. Hot thermal water runs to small basins situated near the cold creeks. This is a great place for bathing and rest in the open air.

19:30 Return to the hotel. Free time. Rest and bathe in hot thermal water swimming pool (in case of the hotel in Paratunka).

Day 5:

09:00 Transfer to the Mountain Vachkazhets (about 80 km from PKC).

11:00-16:00 Trekking to the mountain cirque with a visit to the lake and waterfall. The mountain-mass and its environs are the most beautiful places on the Kamchatka peninsula. In ancient times, Vachkazhets was a one-cone volcano. But as a result of a strong eruption, it exploded and divided into three main parts: Mt. Letnyaya Poperechnaya (1420 m), Mt. Vachkazhtsy (1600 m) and Mt. Vachkazhets itself. In the area of Mt.
