Khabarovsk Botanical Garden

Founded in 1896 as an experimental laboratory, it expanded to a botanical garden of 12 hectares. A great place to walk among 800 species of trees, bushes and flowers from almost every continent.

Khabarovsk Botanical Garden is one of the natural attractions of Khabarovsk. The park is located almost in the center of the metropolis, on Volochaevskaya street. The arboretum was founded in October 1896, when its total area was four hectares. A field and a forestry nursery were laid on this plot of land. Then the arboretum was a dense forest of elm, oak and other trees. In addition, the first planting of such forest plants as the Ussurian pear and the grave pine were planted here.
For all of its existence, the Khabarovsk Botanical Garden has repeatedly changed its leaders, experiencing periods of decline and ups. In 1939, the park was given the status of forestry in the system of the Far Eastern Scientific Research Institute. Since the 50's. In the last century works on the acclimatization of some plants unfit for this climate were organized. It was then that the main collection of trees was formed.
After a while, the arboretum was awarded the title of a monument of nature of regional importance and today it is a scientific, collector and cultural and educational center not only of the city, but of the entire Khabarovsk Territory. In addition, the forest belt located almost in the center of Khabarovsk carries out an ecological function.
The collection of trees of arboretum is considered a unique gene pool of dendroflora. Currently, there are about 386 plant species that represent 102 families and 193 genera. There are also several exotic plants for the region. After walking along the alleys of the arboretum, visitors can see the Chinese magnolia vine, the Amur wild grapes and many other lianas braiding the harmonious trunks of firs and birches. Also on the territory of the park grows Mongolian oak, Amur velvet and Manchurian walnut.
Plants for the Khabarovsk Botanical Garden were collected from all corners of the earth. In the arboretum there are specimens from North America, the foothills of the Tien Shan and the Himalayas.
