Andrei Valenty (Bass)
Biography
In 1992, he completed his studies with distinction at the Chernigov L.N. Revutzsky Music College (trumpet class). From 1992-96, he studied at the Ukrainian State M.P. Dragomanov Pedagogic University (faculty of music and artistic culture, singing teacher Prof. Vladimir Turets) in Kiev. At the same time, he studied singing with Lyubov Kryzhanovskaya, teacher at the Kiev State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. In 1996, he enrolled at the Saint-Peterburg State N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in Professor Georgy Seleznev’s class. In 2001, he completed his studies – and in 2003, his post-graduate studies (tutor Georgy Seleznev) – at the Conservatoire. In 2001, he participated in Vladimir Atlantov’s master-classes.
From 1993-96, he was soloist in the boys’ choir at the Kiev special music boarding school for gifted children attached to the Kiev Conservatoire, and with the choir he appeared in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Holland and Hungary. From 1997, as a second-year student, he began to participate in performances given by the Saint-Peterburg Conservatoire State Theatre of Opera and Ballet for which company, in the course of 5 years, he sang the following roles: Bertrand, King Rene (Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Don Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Sobakin (Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride), The Old Gypsy (Rakhmaninov‘s Aleko), Mephistopheles (Faust).
In 2005, he made his Bolshoi Theatre debut in part of Mussorgsky (Desyatnikov’s The Children of Rosenthal).

He has given solo performances in France, Germany, Great Britain and Belgium. He has appeared in the Small Hall of the A.K. Glazunov Saint-Peterburg Conservatoire, in the Small and Great Halls of the Saint-Peterburg State Philharmonia, at the State Academic Capella of Saint-Peterburg, in the Great Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, at the Moscow State Philharmonia, at the State Kremlin Palace, at the Rossiya Concert Hall. In 2002, he began to appear in a bass trio with Boris Stokolov and Evgeny Nesterenko. Their first joint performance was at a concert of Russian romances at the Moscow International House of Music.
Discography
In 2000, he took part in a recording of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Birmingham University Chorus and Orchestra, conductor Robert Robert Mickley. His solo disc, Popular Romances and Songs, recorded with the National Academic N.P. Osipov Orchestra of Folk Instruments, conductor Nikolai Kalinin.
Awards
He was an award-winner at the International Competition of Romances (Slavutych, 1994) and the Republican Competition of Vocalists (Kiev, 1995), and also a diploma-winner at the Yelena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Vocalists (Saint-Peterburg, 2003). In 2001, he was an award-winner at the Muses of Saint-Peterburg Festival and a scholarship-holder of the Natural Talent Fund of Culture.
