Gianandrea Noseda (Musical Director)

In 1997 he became the first foreign Principal Guest Conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre. Principal Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester since 2002; his contract has been renewed until 2008. From 1999 – 2003 he was Principal Guest Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Principal Conductor of the Orquestra de Cadaques since 1998. From 1999 – 2003 he was Principal Guest Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Principal Conductor of the Orquestra de Cadaques since 1998.
Since September 2003 he has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI. He also serves as Artistic Director of the festival Settimane Musicali di Stresa e del Lago Maggiore.

Gianandrea Noseda was born in Milan where he began his musical studies in piano, composition and conducting. In 1994 he won the Douai and Cadaques Conducting Competitions. Made his conducting debut in 1994 with the Giuseppe Verdi Orchestra in Milan. He has appeared with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Finnish Radio Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic, the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony, the Orchestre du Capitol de Toulouse, the Orchestre National de France, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Santa Cecilia Orchestra.

At the Mariinsky Theatre (both in St Petersburg and on tour) he conducts operas and ballets, and he conducted the premiere of Mozart?s Cosi fan tutte in 2002 and Puccini?s Il trittico in 2003.
In 2001 he made his debut at the Los Angeles Opera in The Queen of Spades, with Placido Domingo in the leading role.
In 2002 he made his Metropolitan Opera debut, conducting Prokofiev?s War and Peace which he has also conducted at Covent Garden, London, and the Teatro alla Scala, Milan.
In autumn 2005 he will be conducting the New York Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras.
He will be conducting La forza del destino in 2006 and Un ballo in maschera in 2007 – 08 with the Metropolitan Opera.
Recordings include discs with Anna Netrebko and the Wiener Philharmoniker (Deutsche Grammofon) and the BBC Philharmonic - three discs of music by Respighi, Prokofiev (the first complete recording of The Stone Flower), Karlowitz and Dallapiccola (Chandos) as well as the opera Goyescas by Granados with the Orquestra de Cadaques and an album dedicated to Montsalvatge. Recording plans include music by Dvorak, Liszt and Khachaturian.
