The Orchestra was founded in 1951 by Samuel Samosud and at different periods its chief conductors and artistic directors were such outstanding musicians as Nathan Rakhlin (1957-1960), Kirill Kondrashin (1960-1976), Dmitry Kitayenko (1976-1990), Vassily Sinaisky (1991-1996) and Mark Ermler (1996-1998). In 1973 the orchestra obtained the status of an “academic orchestra”. In 1998, People’s Artist of the USSR, Professor Yuri Simonov became its Music Director and Chief Conductor.

The Orchestra performed with all the best Soviet conductors as well as some outstanding guest conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Charles Munch, Igor Markevitch, Kurt Sanderling, Igor Stravinsky, Zubin Mehta, Krzysztof Penderecki, to name a few, who all left an indelible mark on the orchestra’s history of success.

The Orchestra’s guest soloists such as Isaac Stern, Yehudi Menuhin, Artur Rubinstein, Glenn Gould, Maurizio Pollini and many others, praised highly the orchestra’s inspired performance, their fine sense of ensemble, and artistic unity. In Russia and on its tours abroad, the orchestra performed together with such a great Russian musicians as David Oistrakh, Sviatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels, Mstislav Rostropovich and Galina Vishnevskaya. They passed on their love and respect for the Orchestra to next generation of musicians such as Victor Tretyakov, Yuri Bashmet, Nikolay Petrov, Vladimir Krainev, Mikhail Petukhov, Nikolai Lugansky and many others.

The geography of the orchestra tours covers more than fifty countries. It gave performences at the best concert halls of the world: Carnegie Hall and Every Fisher Hall in New York, Royal Hall and Albert Hall in London, Musikverein and Opera House in Vienna, the Festival Hall of Herbert von Karajan in Salzburg, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, the best philharmonic halls in Berlin, Munich, Chicago, Oslo, Stockholm, Prague, Washington, Montreal, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Hong Kong and elsewhere. Always on the road, the orchestra is holding out for a variety of genres and styles offering a fascinating combination of technical perfection and expressiveness and artistic presentation. It has participated regularly in the most prestigious music festivals of Europe, and has performed in over 5000 concerts. In 1999-2003 Maestro Simonov led the orchestra on a series of highly successful tours of Great Britain and the United States, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, France, Poland, Croatia, Austria, Romania, Hungary, Japan and Southeast Asia. The season 2004-2005 included new American and Japanese tours, as well as Prague Autumn and Russian Winter Festivals. In the season 2005-2006 will be new Russian, Spain, UK and Korea tours.

The Orchestra has made over 300 recordings. During last two years, several CDs of Tchaikovsky—“Swan Lake” large suite (compiled by Yuri Simonov) and Italian Capriccio; Rachmaninov—Symphony No.2 and “The Rock”; Prokofiev—“Romeo and Julia” large suite (compiled by Yuri Simonov); Beethoven—Symphonies No. 1, 4, 9 were issued, all live from the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.

Winner of the International Antonio Pedrotti Conducting Competition (Italy, 2006), winner of the 1st All-Russian Conductors Competition (Moscow, 2011).

Dimitris Botinis was born in 1986 in Moscow in a family of musicians, and grew up in Greece. At the age of 5 he began his studies in violin and later in viola. As a violinist he graduated summa cum laude from the Conservatory of Patras with a Violin Diploma.

At the age of 14 he started his studies in orchestral conducting under the guidance of his father – a symphony orchestra conductor, and also by participating in International Master Courses for conductors instructed by Prof. Yuri Simonov in Budapest.

In 2011 he graduated summa cum laude from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory “Rimsky Korsakov”, where he has been studying Symphonic and Operatic conducting since 2006, under Prof. Yuri Simonov.

He has conducted orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre , Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, State Academic Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg, State Academic “Cappella-Glinka” Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg, Orchestra Camerata of the State Hermitage Museum, Orchestra of the Frankfurt Opera, Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, Bialystok Symphony Orchestra, “Liszt-Wagner” Symphony Orchestra Budapest, Orchestra Haydn of Bolzano, State Symphony Orchestra of Athens, State Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki, Greek Radio National Symphony Orchestra, Patras Orchestra and others.

In 2010 he made his opera debut in the Opera Theater of St. Petersburg State Conservatory where he conducted P.I. Tchaikovsky’s “Ιolanta”.

Dimitris Botinis has participated in International Festivals such as “Musical Olympus” of St. Petersburg and “International Festival of Patras”.

He is currently an assistant conductor of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.

Sergei Tarasov studied at the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory and graduated from the Conservatory in the class of professor Lev Naumov.

He has won First Prize at several international competitions: the “Printemps de Prague” in 1988; the “First Alabama” (USA) in 1994; the “Sydney” in 1996 (where he was also awarded six special prizes); and the “Premio Jaen” (Spain) in 1999. Tarasov was Second Prizewinner at the Fourth International Music Competition of Japan in 1989; the F.Busoni International Piano Competition in 1995; and the Eighth Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in 1995. He won Fourth Prize in the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in 1998.

Tarasov performs regularly in recital and concerto in Russia and abroad, and has participated in such international festivals as: Schleswig-Holstein and the Ruhr in Germany; Osaka in Japan; and the Bashmet, and Printemps’ de Prague in Czecholsovakia. He has given performances in the Large Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic in Russia, Tokyo’s Santory and Osaka’s Festival Halls in Japan, the Verdi Hall in Milan, the Sydney Opera House, El Teatro Teresa Careño in Caracas, and the Salzburg Mozarteum.

Tarasov made his recording debut in 1989 for Melodia, and has also recorded two CDs for the Arts and Electronics American-Russian Joint Venture.

During her studies at the Gnessin Academy, the singer took part in the performances of the opera studio of the Academy: "Eugene Onegin" (Tatiana), "The Wedding of Figaro" (Countess), "Ruslan and Lyudmila" (Naina) and others. At the festival of vocalists "Debut" at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (2003) she sang the role of Mimi in the opera "Bohemia".
Olga Terentieva is a laureate of several vocal competitions: International Contest of Young Performers in Langpaala (Finland, II Prize), All-Russian Open Competition of Vocalists V.Levko (Moscow, 2008, Grand Prix), XXIII. MI Glinka (Moscow, 2009, II Prize).
The singer's acting data fully manifested itself on the stage of the Novaya Opera theater, where she performs in a variety of ways - from the tragic Abigail to Nabucco to the dreamy Elsa in Lohengrin. In her repertoire, such parties as Gorislava (Ruslan and Ludmila Glinka), Kupava and Olga (The Snow Maiden and the Pskovite Woman by Rimsky-Korsakov), Tamara (The Demon of Rubinstein), Liza (The Tale of Tchaikovsky) Rosalind ("The Bat" Strauss).
The singer takes part in many music festivals. In 2012, at the festival "Transfiguration" she performed a soprano part in the Verdi Requiem (conductor - Andres Mustonen), participated in the concert performance of the opera "Carmen" by Bizet (Mikaela) at the International Festival named after Irina Arkhipova, at the festival "Boldin Autumn" in the Nizhny Novgorod Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after AS Pushkin performed in the opera "Eugene Onegin" by Tchaikovsky (Tatiana). In 2013 Olga Terentyeva performed the part of Yaroslavna in the opera "Prince Igor" of Borodin on the stage of the Israeli opera in Tel Aviv.
With concert programs the singer performs in Russia and abroad - in Germany, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Cyprus.

Honored Artist of Russia Mikhail Gubsky was born in Magnitogorsk. In 1993 he graduated from the Samara Technical University, in 1997 the Samara State Academy of Culture and Arts (class G. Sorokina). Since 1994 - the soloist of the Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. Since 1997 he has collaborated with the Moscow Theater "New Opera" named after Evgeny Kolobov, since 2011 - the soloist of the "New Opera". Since 2001 he performs at the Bolshoi Theater.
Mikhail Gubsky is a laureate of international vocal competitions: the name of Nikolai Pechkovsky in St. Petersburg (1996), the name of MI Glinka in Samara (1997), Stanislav Moniuszko in Warsaw (1998), Bul-Bul in Baku (2000), "Contest of Vocalists, Prizewinners of International Competitions" in the Sobinov Music Festival in Saratov (2000). The singer is also a laureate of the first Irina Arkhipova TV contest "Grand Prix of Moscow" (1997) and a diploma of the 15th International Belvedere International Song Contest in Vienna (1996).
In the repertoire of the singer of the party of Vladimir Igorevich (Prince Igor), Herman (The Queen of Spades), Alfred (Traviata), Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Manrico (Troubadour), Nemorino ("The Love Potion"), , Tristan ("Tristan and Isolde"). In 2003, he took part in the performance of Bach's Mass in B minor with the Russian National Orchestra (conductor Kent Nagano) at the Moscow International House of Music. In 2004, at the festival in Arnim (the Netherlands), dedicated to Igor Stravinsky, he performed the part of Hussar in the opera "Mavra", and also took part in the performance of the poem "The Bell" by Rachmaninov at the Carnegie Hall in New York (conductor James Conlon). In 2008 he sang the part of Shuisky in the Mariinsky Theater. In 2009 he played the title role in the opera "Semen Kotko" Prokofiev in Cagliari (co-production of the Opera Theater of Cagliari and the Mariinsky Theater).
Mikhail Gubsky actively promotes the popularization of opera and musical enlightenment. In 1993 he headed the Experimental Central Choral School of Samara he created. Since 2004 he is the organizer and artistic director of the music festival "From Heart to Heart", which is held under the patronage of the government of the Samara region. In 2007-2011 he was artistic director of the Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.
