Eternal Flame

In the center of the hall of Military Glory is the Eternal Flame on Mamayev Hill. This is a 5-meter image of the hand, made of white marble. The hand grasps the torch with the words inscribed on it: "Glory, glory, glory."

From the embankment of the Volga to the Square of the fallen fighters there is a small street - Alley of Heroes. In 1985, there was opened a memorial monument dedicated to the Heroes of the Soviet Union and full cavaliers of the Order of Glory, who left for the front from the Volgograd region and the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad. The area of the fallen fighters, formerly the Alexander Square, is associated not only with the Battle of Stalingrad. Here, above the mass grave, is an obelisk in honor of all defenders of the city who died in the Civil War. After fierce battles during the Great Patriotic War on February 4, 1943, the burial of the remains of more than one hundred defenders of Stalingrad was made to the grave. Here stands a 26-meter stela of black and red granite. And from February 1, 1963, at the Square of Fallen Fighters in Volgograd, the Eternal Flame burns in memory of the courage and heroism of all defenders of the city.
