Krasnoyarsk Regional Museum of Local Lore

One of the largest museums of local lore of the Russian Federation is located in the capital of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Its scale is amazing. In Eastern Siberia and the Far East, the regional museum in Krasnoyarsk is also the oldest keeper of the exhibits.

The idea with its discovery appeared as early as the beginning of 1889. The founders of the museum were representatives of the local intelligentsia - Matveyev's wife. Its history dates back more than 100 years.

The Local History Museum (Krasnoyarsk) played a very important role in the cultural, scientific and intellectual development of the entire Eastern Siberia. At the moment, it contains works of a wide variety of directions. In its walls there are exhibits representing the following fields of activity:

  • research;
  • stock and publishing;
  • exhibition and exposition;
  • methodical and educational.


At present, the history museum is located in a building that was originally built for these purposes. However, the work lasted for a long time. The beginning of construction is at the end of the XIX century. The idea was implemented according to the project of architect LA Chernyshov. The building for the museum was erected in the Art Nouveau style, and extravagant notes to it were added features of ancient Egyptian architecture.

The First World War was the reason why the construction was temporarily suspended, and in the unfinished building there were barracks and a military hospital. Finally, the local history museum (Krasnoyarsk) was completed only in 1929.

From the late 80's to the beginning of 2001 there was a reconstruction of large-scale sizes, a new stock building was completed. At the moment the museum's area is more than 5 500 square meters. m. Of them more than 4 thousand square meters. m are on exhibitions and expositions.
