Monument to Komsomols

Sculptural group erected in 1973 on the draft AE Krivolapova and VP Kalinichenko. The monument is dedicated to the memory komsomoltsev - the defenders of Stalingrad.

In the very center of Volgograd, almost at the intersection of Komsomolskaya and Lenin Avenue, a sculptural group was erected in memory of Komsomol members defending Stalingrad. The monument was created by the project of sculptor Alexei Krivolapov and architect Valentin Kalinichenko. It was installed in 1973 and in 2009 it became the first monument of Volgograd, which collapsed from inattention of the authorities.
The composition is a three-piece figure of a Komsomol member, a girl and two guys, made by a method of copper knockout on a skeleton of a channel and a corner. All of them mourn for their lost companion. The death of the soldier is evidenced by the helmet lying under the feet of the Komsomol members.
But even the death of loved ones can not break the young defenders of Stalingrad - they are again ready to rush into battle. Sculptural composition is installed on a low pedestal, on which the inscription: "To the Komsomol members - defenders of Stalingrad. Your feat is immortal. "
By April 2009, skeleton sculpture monument "Komsomol members - defenders of Stalingrad" was partially destroyed by corrosion, and despite holding surface repair works, was not restored. In the evening of April 19, under the influence of sharp gusts of wind sculptures of young men collapsed from the pedestal.
On the restoration of the monument, which by that time was also orphaned, funds were collected from both the budget of the region and the city, as well as of public organizations. The sculptor Moses Pavlovsky and the architect who created the monument, Valentin Kalinichenko, restored the monument.
The shape of the sculpture of the young Komsomol members was completely restored. Earlier, the hollow figures were from the inside for stability poured with concrete and installed in their original place.
