Monument to Vladimir Lenin

There are several monuments to Lenin located in Volgograd, which is not surprising considering that the city was rebuilt in the Soviet-style after the Second World War. The main statue within the centre of the city is located on Ploschad Lenina (Lenin Square) on Prospekt Lenina (Lenin Prospect). Behind the statue is the memorial arch which surrounds Pavlov’s House.

The 90th anniversary of the birth of the leader of the world proletariat in the USSR was noted widely and was planned in advance. Back in 1951, by a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on January 21, it was decided to erect a monument to Vladimir Lenin in Stalingrad by this date. And on April 21, 1960 on the Oborona Square, renamed for this occasion in Lenin Square, the monument was inaugurated.
The monument to Lenin is a 9-meter bronze sculpture mounted on a granite pedestal depicting an armored car tower. The sculptor perpetuated the leader at the time of his historic speech before the Finland Station of Petrograd in April 1917.

The bronze sculpture of Lenin was made at the Mytishchi plant of artistic casting. The total height of the monument (together with the pedestal) is 18.8 meters. Organically fitting into the colonnade of Pavlov's house, the monument became the compositional center of the square.
By the way, the erection of a new monument to Vladimir Ilyich demanded the transfer of another, older postwar monument - one of the tank towers of the memorial complex "Line of Defense of the 62nd Army." The tank tower was installed in front of Pavlov's house and during the construction of the monument to Lenin was moved to Naumova Street, where it can be found today.
I must say that this monument is not the only sculptural image of Lenin, made by the sculptor Wouchetchet in our city. On the shore of the Volga-Don canal in the Krasnoarmeysky district of Volgograd, another monument to Lenin, made by Yevgeny Vuchetch, like the sculpture Motherland of Reinforced Concrete, was erected.
