Lena Pillars - is a chain of steep rocks located along the right bank of the Lena River.

Lena Pillars - the work of nature is so powerful and incredible that the impression they make is difficult to put into words. You "lose your head" when you look at them - this is perhaps the most accurate description.

The multi-kilometer ridge ridge rises along the bank of the Lena, two hundred kilometers from Yakutsk. These stone giants are half a million years old - for thousands of years wind and water have turned relatively soft Cambrian limestones into hard rocks. On the rocks you can see prints of shells of the most ancient inhabitants of these places, trilobite crustaceans.

Trilobites became extinct long ago, and now in a dense forest one can only come across a squirrel or a chipmunk. Jaegers assure that in general there are many wild animals, but tourists scared everything that is larger than a squirrel.

One glance from the observation deck of the Lena Pillars at the neighborhood is worth both the time spent on the road and any money. Here it is - the greatness of the Siberian expanses. Compared to Lena, any European river is a pale stream. The blue ribbon, rippled, cut by sandy stretches and long islands, goes far into the fog. From the coast stretches endless taiga.

Tourists are offered routes for every taste - from hiking to rafting on the rivers. This requires a certain amount of physical training, although there will be no super-complex tests - you will not be forced to climb steep cliffs or go through categorical rapids. Just need to prepare for hiking life. And to the incredible Siberian landscapes.

In December 2012, the Lena Pillars entered the UNESCO World Heritage List. The new status should contribute to the development of ecotourism, and the authorities of Yakutia promise to create the appropriate infrastructure in the national park

IMPORTANT
Most of the tourist routes in the reserve are long and steep. You will have to walk no less than two kilometers and climb up one hundred-two hundred meters from the level at the beginning of the path. Therefore, you need to take care of comfortable clothing and sports shoes.

At the end of summer, the weather is extremely changeable - in a matter of minutes, the downpour is replaced by a hot sun, and after half an hour, clouds creep in and a piercing wind blows. Be extremely careful on the trail after the rain - on a steep slope the sodden road can literally get out from under your feet.

What to bring from the park "Lena Pillars"
Not far from the coast, where tourist ships and boats moor, there is a small shop. Here you can buy local souvenirs. By the way, excellent author khomuses are sold there (for many, the more familiar name of this musical instrument is the harp) of Honored Master of Yakutia Innokentiy Nikitich Gotovtsev.

Not less original souvenir can be a small piece of rock from those that are lying on the rocky shore at the foot of the Lena pillars.

HISTORY
Lena Pillars officially became a “natural park” in February 1995. In August 2011, the site was presented to experts of the International Union for Conservation of Nature for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In December 2012, the Lena Pillars National Park received a high status of “World Heritage”.

On one of the pillars you can see a cross. There is a legend that he was erected in memory of a broken rock climber. But this is a romantic tale - climbing on the Lena pillars is prohibited. In fact, it was like this: local enthusiasts who built the trail, at the end of the work were going to build a ritual hitching post serge from the remaining logs. But cutting the ornament on the serge must be done according to strict canons, otherwise the talisman will turn into a source of misfortunes. Therefore, they decided to put a cross - to make it easier. How builders managed to climb a lonely peak, it is difficult to imagine. In their own words, they will never repeat this feat.
