Ryazan Kremlin

The heart of the Ryazan Kremlin is the Assumption Cathedral, which was built in the period from 1633 to 1699. It stands on top of the Kremlin hill and is visible 20 km from Ryazan. The building is styled as Moscow Assumption Cathedral. It was built according to the project of the serf architect Jacob Bukhvostov. The temple is decorated with unusual white-stone carvings, and no detail of the pattern is repeated. Next to the temple is the bell tower (1840).

Another majestic temple of the Ryazan Kremlin is the Archangel Cathedral. It was built in the XV-XVII centuries, it is one of the oldest buildings of the Kremlin complex. This is the former princely home church and at the same time - the tomb of the Ryazan bishops. Despite a significant restructuring after the fire of 1647, the cathedral retained the typical features of the architecture of the XV century.

Church of the Holy Spirit - a monument of architecture of the first half of the XVII century. It was designed by the same architect as the Church of the Epiphany - Vasily Zubov. This building houses a science library.

Church of the Epiphany - a monument of architecture of the middle of the XVII century, built on the site of an older white-stone church of the XVI century, destroyed by a fire in 1647.

The most ancient stone building on the territory of the Kremlin is the Nativity of Christ Cathedral, which until the XVII century was called the Old Assumption. Built in the XV century, the temple for its long history has been repeatedly restored and rebuilt, so much of its elements belong to the XIX century. Initially, the cathedral served as a city-wide church and was the burial vault of the Ryazan princes and princesses.

The Savior Transfiguration Cathedral was built at the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries.

In addition to the ancient temples and churches, you can see the complex of buildings of the XVII century. These include the Bishops 'Chambers or the Palace of Oleg - the largest civilian structure of the Ryazan Kremlin, a two-storied singing building made of bricks, the Consistory Building, built in the same style as the Bishops' Houses. In the building of the Consistorial Corps there is one of the most unusual exhibitions - the museum-theater called “When things started talking”. There is also an exhibition dedicated to the interaction of man and nature.

Ryazan Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve is located on the territory of the Kremlin. The exposition of the museum presents Old Ryazan treasures, samples of facial sewing, wooden sculpture, women's jewelry made of silver and gold from the 12th and 13th centuries, ethnographic collections, etc. The museum-reserve contains a unique historical and archaeological monument - the ancient settlement of Old Ryazan (XI-XIII centuries). This is the ancient capital of the Ryazan principality. Near him were fierce battles with the Tatar-Mongols. Now in the reserve "Old Ryazan" archaeological excavations are carried out, 16 treasures have already been found.

HISTORY
Ryazan Kremlin was founded at the end of 1095. The stone Kremlin originated on the site of wooden buildings in the 15th century and was periodically rebuilt until the 19th century.

Researchers believe that the design of the Assumption Cathedral can be compared in terms of skill only with the decoration of the Faceted Chamber in Moscow and the Nativity Church in Nizhny Novgorod.

Legends
The staff of the hero of the Kulikovo battle Peresvet is kept on the territory of the museum-reserve. During the reign of Peter I, the young nobles tested their strength by raising this staff. And the staff was attributed to the healing power of toothache, so its handle was all gnawed.
