Ildiko Komlosi (Mezzo soprano)
Hungarian mezzosoprano Ildikó Komlósi studied music at the Franz Liszt Academy of Budapest and took part in the vocal courses of the La Scala Theatre in Milan and Guildhall School of Music in London. In 1986, she debuted in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with Luciano Pavarotti and under the baton of Lorin Maazel.
After her debut with the Frankfurt State Opera and at the Vienna State Opera, in 1990 she sang in her first La Scala production. During the following years, she conquered North and South America and the Far East. She is invited frequently to the greatest opera houses and festivals: Metropolitan Opera in New York, Covent Garden in London, Verbier Festival in Switzerland, German Opera in Berlin, Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, BBC Proms in London, opera theatres of Munich and Tokyo, Semperoper in Dresden, La Scala, Arena di Verona, and other Italian theatres. She also performs with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
In 2003, she performed Amneris (Verdi’s Aida) in Robert Wilson’s production at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden under the baton of Antonio Pappano and in 2006 she performed the same role in Zeffirelli’s production at the opening of the La Scala opera season. She has been regularly invited to sing at the Arena di Verona as Carmen, Amneris, Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, and Laura in Ponchielli’s Gioconda. In 2009, she sang Santuzza and in 2013 she sang the Nurse in Richard Strauss’s Die Frau ohne Schattenat the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She performed in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle at the opening the 2015/2016 symphonic season at La Scala under the baton of Alain Gilbert and at the London PROMS under the baton of Charles Dutoit. She has also performed Ježibaba in Dvořák’s Rusalka at the Liceu Theatre in Barcelona and Kassandra in Berlioz’s Les Troyens at the German Opera in Berlin.
In 2014–2015, she performed Azucena (Verdi’s Il trovatore) in the production of Dmitri Tcherniakov at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
Ildikó Komlósi’s records were released on the Decca and BMG labels.
