Tugan Sokhiev (Conductor)

Born in Vladikavkaz. Graduated from the faculty of opera and symphony conducting at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in 2001 (class of Professors Musin and Temirkanov).
Prize-winner at the III Prokofiev International Conducting Competition (1999). Has conducted the Mariinsky Theatre and St Petersburg Conservatoire orchestras at concerts in memory of Ilia Musia (1999-2000).
Conducted Rossini?s opera Il viaggio a Reims at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2000 with the Academy of Young singers.
Guest conductor of the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Northern Ossetia and Principal Conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia.
In 2001, he made his debut with Iceland Opera, Welsh National Opera, Danish Radio Sinfonietta, the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra della Toscana. Conducted the Bavarian Staatsoper and BBC orchestras.
