On the high bank of the Kama stands an ancient mansion. In its almost 130-year history of the house changed hands several times, but in the city’s memory he retained the name of its first owner – Nikolay Meshkov. Now in Meshkov House is open an exhibition on the history of the Perm region from ancient times to the late twentieth century. Perm Museum of local lore is the largest and most visited museum in Perm region.

The first room of the new historical exhibition presents two themes: “Culture of ancient Kama region. The space of the ancient human” and “Great Perm. The space of pioneers”. Here you can see the unique archeological finds: a treasure of Mesolithic axes, Sassanian silver, jewelry of Bulgarian artists and many other items that shed the light on the way of life of people inhabited the shores of Kama from aboriginal historical era to the Middle Ages, as well as for the first time – a sculptural portrait of the ancient inhabitant of the Kama region (Demenkovsky cemetery near Ilinskoe Village, VII-VIII).

The second and third halls are dedicated to metallurgical life of people ushered in the industry at the Urals and in fact Perm. Landowners and industrialists Stroganov, the founder of Perm Vasily Tatishchev, engineer and inventor Nikolay Slavyanov – these are the heroes of this time. Copper coins and dishes, guns and ammunition, iron castings and samovars – these are the famous Ural items in XVIII XIX centuries, not only in the whole Russia, but also abroad.
The halls from the fourth to eighth represent the theme “Urban Culture. The space of urban residents” reflecting the history and culture of the provincial town. The items of everyday, musical, theatrical and cultural life of Perm at the time are located in these halls.

The most significant innovation been brought by the regional museum into its exhbition is the maximum availability of items in the collection to the audience. There is no person who has come to any museum in the world that would want to touch its interesting exhibits, examine them closely and from different angles. This feature gives is provided for the guests of regional museum through the interactive kiosks installed in several halls. Using a touch screen and the program installed in kiosk each visitor can take a closer look at the items of museum collection attracted hos/her attention, read about their history and original purpose. This allows for the visitor to get closely to the item, to stay with it alone. Interactive programs can help to familiarize with a collection of Perm animal style, history of the Stefan Permsky stick creation, together with the Ermak conquer the Siberian Khanate and using the computer games to learn a lot of new and interesting things about the life of ancient people. Similar technology is used in many museums around the world.
