The Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Saratov Philharmonic is one of the oldest symphonic collectives in the country, celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2016.The orchestra was created in 1946 by the order of the Committee for the Arts at the Council of Ministers of the USSR. The first conductor, who headed the team, was a graduate of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, a student of A. Glazunov and N. Malko Mikhail Yulievich Shkolnikov (1897-1966). For the years of its existence the Saratov orchestra has taken one of the leading places among the most famous orchestral collectives of Russia.An important role in the formation of the original artistic appearance of the collective was played by the conductors behind it. It is safe to say that almost all the famous conductors of the Soviet era were behind the panel of the Saratov orchestra. In different years the orchestra was headed by: Nathan Faktorovich, Lilay Kiladze, Jan Shpiller, Martyn Nersesyan, Roman Matsov, Gennady Provatorov, Vakhtang Zhordania, Emin Khachaturian, Leonid Korchmar, Murad Annamamedov, Eduard Serov, Tao Lin, Vladimir Verbitsky, Evgeny Bushkov, Emmanuel Lediuk -Bar.With the orchestra there were outstanding musicians: E. Gilels, S. Richter, D. Oistrakh, L. Oborin, S. Knushevitsky, J. Flier, L. Kogan, M. Rostropovich, V. Tretyakov, V. Spivakov, D. Bashkirov, N. Gutman, N. Shakhovskaya, L. Isakadze, E. Virsaladze, N. Petrov, V. Klimov, M. Pletnev, L. Vlasenko, G. Sokolov, E. Mogilevsky, T. Dokshitser, Yu. Bashmet, A. Rudin, N. Lugansky, A. Baeva, A. Trostiansky, n. Borisoglebsky, J. Kasman, A. Korobeinikov, L. Klychkov, P. Popov, S. Slovachevsky, M. Kultyshev, N. Mndoyants, K. Okudzhava, young performers A. Gugnin, D. Masleev, I. Pochekin, S. Dogadin, L. Geniusas and many others.The orchestra is a consistent promoter of the classical heritage of Russian and foreign music. Among the greatest artistic achievements of the orchestra are the cycles in which were performed all the symphonies of L. Beethoven, W. Mozart, I. Brahms, P. Tchaikovsky, S. Rachmaninov.

Mikhail Simonyan (born 1986) is a violinist from Novosibirsk. He began to study the violin at the age of five. In 1999, at 13, Simonyan made his New York debut at Lincoln Center with the American Russian Young Artists Orchestra (ARYO) and his debut in St. Petersburg, Russia at the Mariinsky Theatre in ARYO's joint concert with the Mariinsky Youth Orchestra, performing the Karol Szymanowski Violin Concerto No. 1. He has earned first prize awards at the All-Russia Competition in St. Petersburg, the Siberian Violin Competition, the National Prize Prizvanie in Moscow, and the Salon de Virtuosi in New York. He is a winner of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Award, and received the 2000 Virtuoso of the Year award in St. Petersburg. In 2003, the National Academy of Achievement selected him for an award in the Performing Arts. In 2005, he received the highest level of recognition when Vladimir Putin received him at the Kremlin, in acknowledgment of his status as one of Russia’s most promising young musicians.Mikhail Simonyan made his London recital debut at Wigmore Hall in October 2008.Mikhail Simonyan studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and continues to work with Victor Danchenko. He lives in Philadelphia.

Chief conductor, Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre Conductor Felix Korobov, born in Moscow in 1972, started his career as a conductor with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia. For three seasons he was Chief Conductor in two major opera theatres of Moscow, both the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre and the Kolobov New Opera theatre where he conducted, among others, Norma and The Tsar’s Bride.Since September 2004 Mr Korobov has devoted himself almost solely to the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.He has worked as music director and conductor for a broad range of major Russian and international operas, from Prokofiev War and Peace, Rimsky-Korsakov May Night, Tchaikovsky Eugene Onegin and Queen of Spades, to Verdi Aida, Puccini Tosca and La Boheme, as well as operas by Bellini, Rossini, and contemporary works, both opera and ballet, by leading Russian and international composers.. Korobov’s opera repertoire now includes more than 30 titles.He at present is also Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Chamber orchestra at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, where this season he will conduct a special series of Mozart in combination with leading 20th century composers from Ibert to Britten. He is a principal Guest Conductor at the Saint-Petersburg Camerata orchestra of the State Hermitage Museum.
