Dog Sledding and Hiking on Lake Baikal ice

This trip will include an exotic dog sledding adventure and hiking on the transparent lake Baikal ice, staying in a solitude Bolshie Koty village, bathing in a famous Russian sauna, taste the Siberian cuisine. It is a perfect chance to challenge the “Siberian Winter”, and to experience the outstanding beauty and immensity of the frozen kingdom and more then warm hospitality of local people.

You will be transferred from Irkutsk to Listvyanka village, Lake Baikal.

On arrival in Listvyanka after the instructor tells you about the huskies' character, teaches you to hitch dogs up correctly and to drive them, the team of Russian racing huskies will lead you along the ice trail. Controlling the wooden sledge at sharp turns, enjoying the speed and the breath-taking beauty of the surroundings, the sheer excitement and adrenalin rush from this experience is wonderful and evokes the feelings of the unity with nature. An experienced guide-instructor will escort your trip with a skidoo. In the evening you may enjoy Russian sauna and a traditional dinner in pleasant, log built, Koty Chalet. The way back to Listvyanka next day is also by dogs or a hiking on the Lake Baikal ice.

Day 0: Getting to Irkutsk

The fastest way is to get to Irkutsk by plane from Moscow. There are 6 direct flights per day, duration is 5h 40m.
Usually travellers to Russia visit Moscow for several days before a trip to Baikal. Moscow is the capital of Russia and transport hub for journeys to the rest of Russia. UVisitRussia recommends our partner Aeroflot Russian Airlines for your flight.

Day 1: Irkutsk - Listvyanka - Bolshie Koty

Day transfer by private car to settlement of  Listvyanka Villagesmall but tourist-wise village of Listvyanka is located on the western shore of Lake Baikal, 70 km from Irkutsk.   After arriving to the Listvyanka settlement tourists will have a chance to view an open-air dog cage to see how the harness is put on the dogs. A dog team of Russian racing huskies, brought from Kamchatka peninsula, lead you along the forest trail 20 km from Listvyanka to the mountain pass. Controlling the wooden sledge at a steep turns, enjoying the speed and the breath-taking beauty of the surroundings, the sheer excitement and adrenalin rush from this experience is wonderful and evokes the feelings of unity with nature. Experienced guide-instructor will help you during the trip. 
 After that you will have to walk 5km on foot to Bolshie Koty.
Bolshie Koty is a remote and isolated village (reachable only by feet or by boat, no road) where one can relax and enjoy the beauty and serenity of this region. Overnight in a cozy Siberian chalet,  built in the traditional Russian wooden architecture style, packed full of gorgeous features which make the property truly unique. Great view to the lake from all rooms, spacious dining room, superb cuisine are the most remarkable advantages of the Koty Chalet. Peaceful atmosphere, bright colors, forests full of mushrooms and wild berries, sunsets over the great lake will take your heart forever. All rooms with balconies and view to the lake.

Day 2: Hiking from Listvyanka to Bolshie Koty

Hiking from Listvyanka Village to Bolshie Koty.  Both settlements, Listvyanka and Bolshie Koty are located at the shore of Lake Baikal, only 20 km away. Nevertheless two settlements differ a lot: Listvyanka is one of the most visited places on the lake, Bolshie Koty is much smaller, clean and peaceful village. There is no highway to Bolshie Koty, so one can reach the place only by feet or by boat. Quietness and the natural beauty of the area will charm you and leave the peace of mind and unity filling deep in your soul. Ideal place to relax and take a break from city life and traffic noise to simply enjoy the beauty and serenity of this region. Usually the hike takes about 5-6 hours with a lunch break.   You will transfer to Irkutsk by private car.
