Monument to the Founders of Irkutsk

The monument to the founders of Irkutsk was unveiled on September 14, 2011. This was the date of the celebration of the city’s 350 years anniversary. The monument is located on the banks of the River Angara, near the Cathedral of the Epiphany. It is a collective representation of the Cossacks, pioneers of Siberia. On the pedestal one can read “To the founders of Irkutsk, from the citizens”. This 6 meters high statue was casted in the city of Zhukovsky (near Moscow). This creation of this monument was financed by the state, by sponsors and by the citizens.

To mark the date of celebration of the Irkutsk’s 350th anniversary, the monument to the founders of Irkutsk was unveiled on September 14, 2011.
