The Seaport is the most beautiful building in Sochi!

Sochi Marine Station - the brightest architectural landmark of the city, a monument to the Soviet resort "great style". Reconstructed for the 2014 Olympics, a magnificent two-story building with long marble galleries and a 74-meter tower strikes with its southern richness of décor, which is combined with festive lightness. Most often, this place seems familiar even to those who look at it for the first time, because it was here, at the pier of cruise liners, that the opening scenes of the beloved comedy “The Diamond Hand” were filmed. The heroes of the film are now immortalized next to the seaport in the form of a sculptural group: Semyon Semenych Gorbunkov with a suitcase and family.

The station building was built in 1955, and it looks like the most magnificent "Stalin Empire". The project can be considered one of the “swan songs” of this style, since in November of the same year a party decree was issued proclaiming the fight against “architectural excesses”. The classics of Soviet architecture, Karo Alabyan and Leonid Karlik, who were engaged in restoring the Sochi sea after the war, did not stint on these “excesses”, and decorated the station like a cake. There are white marble, and carved columns, and small fountains in the courtyards of the gallery, and allegorical statues of the cardinal points and seasons created by sculptor Vladimir Ingal, and luxurious decoration of the lobby with stucco molding, iron castings, colored ceramics, mosaics and majolica, and steel Spire with a star of the Order of the Great Patriotic War at the top. The Order appeared during the reconstruction - he replaced the traditional Soviet star of three-meter span.

The silhouette of a three-tier tower with a spire resembles the Admiralty in St. Petersburg, only instead of Baltic severity - southern abundance and lightness. The impression is reinforced by the openings of a two-story gallery with cafe tables and a square with roses, palm trees and Himalayan cedars smashed in front of the entrance. The square is decorated with the same fountain as the “Navigation” fountain. Above his seven-meter bowl sits the goddess of navigation, stretching her arm toward the sea.

By appointment, the Maritime Station (also called the Old Maritime Station) is no longer used. Today it’s a shopping gallery with restaurants and a great place to stroll, especially if you are walking along the Sochi embankment. Here you can buy a ticket for a pleasure boat or, if finances allow, rent a boat. There are a lot of yachts moored near the Sea Port, fishermen and cats waiting for catch catch up on site, the territory is landscaped, there are a lot of benches, in the evening there is a beautiful light.
