Igor Dronov (Conductor)
Since 1992, he has been a professor of conducting at the Moscow Conservatoire. Since 1994, he has been the principal conductor and artistic director of the Premiere Youth Ensemble. In 1991–1996, he was the principal conductor with the Bolshoi Theatre. At the Bolshoi Theatre, he has conducted Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Gounod’s Faust, Verdi’s Il trovatore and La traviata, and Rachmaninoff’s Aleko and Miserly Knight. Then he became the principal guest conductor with the Bolshoi Theatre. In 2003, he contributed to staging of the original version of Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila at the Bolshoi Theatre. At the Bolshoi Theatre, he was also a musical director of the following productions: Pärt’s Ward No. 6, Krasavin’s Magrittomania and Lea to music by Bernstein (2004), Midsummer Night’s Dream to music by Mendelssohn and Ligeti and to traditional mechanical music (2005), Serenade to music by Tchaikovsky (2006), Misericordes to Pärt’s Third Symphony (world première, 2006), Prokofiev’s Cinderella (2006), Delerue’s Enetime (2007), Russian Seasons to music by Desyatnikov (2008), Delibes’s Coppelia (2009), Stravinsky’s Petrushka (2010), Chroma to music by Talbot and White (2011), Cinque to music by Vivaldi (2011), Symphony of Psalms to music by Stravinsky (2011), and The Taming of the Shrew to music by Shostakovich (2014, world première). He also appears with concert programmes of the Bolshoi Orchestra. Igor Dronov is a guest conductor with many renowned orchestras including the Russian National Orchestra, Ensemble Modern (Germany), the Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera, Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of the Kennedy Center (USA) and others, as well as the principal conductor of the Studio for New Music (Moscow). With the Studio, he has performed over 500 concerts featuring compositions by modern Russian and foreign composers and presented several world premières. He has also been the principal conductor of the Moscow Forum Festival since its foundation. Igor Dronov has recorded several CDs of the Russian and foreign music. He has toured to Europe, USA, and Japan.
