        Born in 1956 in Shanghai, in 1957 he moved to Leningrad. In 1979, he graduated from the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute. In 1988, he graduated from the Leningrad State Conservatory (class of N.Okhotnikov) and the same year joined the Mikhailovsky Opera Company.
