Take a taxi from your St.Petersburg hotel (own expense) and get on board of the fast train "Lastochka" connecting St.Petersburg and Novgorod-the-Great in the early morning (at 07:00 am) and relax for a comfortable 3-hour ride. You will reach the railway station of Novgorod-the-Great at 10:00 am, where the guide will pick you up, and you will start enjoying a fascinating day trip of a historic city of Novgorod-the-Great (the UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Once Russia's first capital and still considered one of its most ancient cities, Novgorod houses an inimitable variety of medieval monuments. Begin the day with a visit to Novgorod’s Kremlin, the oldest in Russia which dates back to 864 A.D. Walk along its monumental walls and admire the stunning cathedral of St. Sophia, one of Russia’s best-preserved churches built in the 11th century and still in use today, and admire the stone walls, five domes and 12th-century frescoes, before continuing the tour with a visit to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Yaroslav's Court. Explore the old marketplace on the bank of the Volkhov RiverSee the Church of the Savior with its frescoes painted by Theophanes the Greek, who lived in Novgorod in the late 14th century.
After an optional lunch at a local restaurant, continue the afternoon with a visit to Yuriev Monastery, an 11th-century medieval religious complex built along the beautiful Volkov River. Then pay a visit to “Vitoslavlitsy," the open-air museum of wooden structures located close to the monastery, for an idea of how Novgorod’s inhabitants lived in the past. 

At approximately 17:20 pm start your way towards the railway station to take the return train from Novgorod-the-Great to St.Petersburg. Your train will depart from Novgorod-the-Great at 18:00 pm and will reach St.Petersburg at 21:00 pm. Take your way to the hotel in St.Petersburg (own expense).
