Your walking tour begins at the very heart of St Petersburg - Palace Square. Meet your guide there and then enter the magnificent Hermitage, which to any art lover's delight holds the largest collection of paintings in the world! Founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great, the six historic buildings include the Winter Palace, a former residence of Russian emperors.
After a short introduction, explore the museum with your guide for at least two hours and enjoy the vast collections of art from the masters. View French Impressionist paintings by Rembrandt and Matisse, as well as those by Picasso. See Italian Renaissance works by Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci and Rafael. Then, visit the Spanish section to admire paintings by Velázquez, Goya and El Greco and those of Rubens and Van Dyck in the Flemish section.
Stretching over six buildings, there are over 3 million pieces of work in the museum. It would take about fifteen years to see them all. In your guided tour of the museum, you would see the State Rooms of the Winter Palace, a part of the collection of paintings of Old Masters and other amazing masterpieces. You’ll also get to admire the gorgeous Gala stair-way, Peter’s Memorial Hall, the Armorial Hall, the Pavilion Hall with various amusements and the Gallery of 1812 which holds numerous delicate portraits.
