The widest bridge in St. Petersburg, the Blue Bridge can easily pass unnoticed, as it carries much of St. Isaac's Square on its 97.3-meter back. The first section of the present bridge, a single iron span on stone supports designed by V. Geste, was erected in 1805. In 1841, the bridge was more than doubled in size to its present width.
