Embankment of the Onega lake – one of the favourite walking places among citizens and guests of the city. Overall length of the embankment is about 2.5 km. It is an open-air museum exhibiting original sculptures, most of them were presented to Petrozavodsk by its sister-cities. Embankment is also a place were the majoruty of city events and festivals are held, including the start and finish of Onego regatta organized in Karelia every summer.

One of the most beautiful and magical places in the Karelian city of Petrozavodsk is the embankment on the shore of Onega Lake. Built in comparatively recently, in 1944, the embankment became very popular, as a wonderful place for rest and walking, among the townspeople and visitors of the city.
Neat paving slabs, beautiful green lawns, silvery surface of the lake, what else could be more beautiful for a pleasant pastime in the summer? In winter, they come here to admire the ice and snow figures of Hyperborea. The embankment has become a place of folk festivals, a venue for competitions and festivals. Along the embankment, along its entire length, monuments were erected, accepted by Petrozavodsk as a gift from other cities.
The steel sculpture "Fishermen" - the first monument that opened the "sculptural gallery" of Petrozavodsk, was presented by the city of Duluth from America. Next came the Tübingen panel, Desire tree, Wave of Friendship, Starry sky, Mermaid, Woman.
From 2002 to 2003, another embankment was built in Petrozavodsk, made in the style of the XIX century, since the main part of it lay through a district with historical buildings.
