State Department Store
The State Department Store is located in the center of Ulan-Bator, two kilometers east of Genghis Khan Square. The department store was opened in 1921 and initially occupied the building of a two-story house, built in 1905 in the center of Urga by a Russian merchant (now the Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts is located in this house). In 1961, the department store moved to a specially constructed modern building, located on Mira Avenue, and became known as the State Department Store. In 1999, the store was purchased by the Mongolian company Nomin Holding Company, under whose management the State Department Store began to match the quality of the services provided and the range of goods to the world's largest shopping centers. On the seven floors of the State Department Store there are boutiques of famous world brands, jewelry stores, women's, men's, children's and sportswear stores. It sells products for the home, toys, furniture, dishes, leather goods, cashmere and furs, shoes, watches, computer and household appliances. The State Department Store houses the largest bookshop in Mongolia, a souvenir center, a supermarket, mobile communication outlets, a tourist information center, ATMs, a hairdresser, beauty salons, cafes and restaurants. To get around the whole store, it takes more than an hour, visitors during a break between purchases can have a cup of coffee in a cozy Cinnabon Café, taste national cuisine in one of the restaurants located on the 1st and 6th floors of the department store, watch a movie in a 3D cinema or buy a tour of sightseeing of Mongolia in the tourist office on the 1st floor. |
