Yttygran island

Itygran (Yttygran, Ittigran) is an island in the Senyavin Channel of the Bering Sea, within the Providensky District of the Chukotka Autonomous District.

Itygran Island was discovered and described during the expedition of FP Litke in August 1828.On the island until the early 1940's. there was an Eskimo settlement of Sikluk.

The island is famous for the Whale Alley - an ancient Eskimo building from the parallel rows of skulls and jaws of bowhead whales dug into the ground. The Whale Alley is constructed of 50-60 skulls and 30 jaws and hundreds of specially laid stones. It is dated by the period of the late Punuk (XIV-XVI centuries AD).
