The existence of the gallery begins with the opening in 1902 of the art department of Perm Scientific Industrial Museum. In the 1920s the collection was replenished with significant number of the ancient Russian works of decorative-applied art and sculptures. In 1922 the Museum of Art was opened under Perm State Regional Museum which in 1936 became independent, and was called as the Art Gallery.
