Gogol Street
Gogol Street was originally named Headquarter street. But from 1909 to the present time it holds the name of famous writer Nikolai Gogol. The length of the street is more than 6 kilometers. During the soviet era, it was only allowed to build stone buildings on this street. They were solely used for public institutions, homes of officials, merchants etc. At the eastern end of the street, there is a central park of the city. It is a wonderful place where you have the opportunity to visit the cinema, swim in the aquapark and spend time in the amusement park. In the park there is also an artificial lake where you can take a ride on boats and catamarans. For fans of extreme sports there is a paintball club and in the park. The park occupies roughly 50 hectares of land. Nearby the park there is the famous Almaty zoo. It is the first, the biggest and the best zoo in the country. There you can find more than 400 animal species, 71 of which are included in the Red List. In 1944 the trolleybus line was built. Since then the line has been used for passenger transportation. The street is also a northern border of the famous 28 Panfilov soldiers park. |
