Embankment of the Kama River

The embankment of the Kama River is the main decoration of Perm. Recently renovated, in the afternoon it is filled with young mummies with strollers, and in the evening lovers come here to admire the reflection of stars in unhurried river water.

At the junction of the XVIII and XIX space along the Kama in the city line looked like a solid cargo pier, built up by warehouses and sheds. Dozens of steamers scurried along the river, carrying more than a million poods of goods, rock salt, sawn timber and metal a year, and Perm was one of the main ports.

Appointed in 1796, the head of the Perm province KFModerah made the first step in creating a city embankment: by his order, the shore of Kama was filled with a buta. In the thirties of the twentieth century there was an attempt to create a new embankment, but the war prevented it. And only in the sixties the coast of the Kama was finally put in order, having laid almost four kilometers of reinforced concrete slabs.

The last reconstruction of the embankment was carried out quite recently. As a result, cast iron fences appeared along the river, the gray granite tiles replaced the cracked asphalt, the sides of the flower beds were laid out with black polished stone, and new wooden benches were put up. The planted trees and shrubs are, however, still too small, but very little time will pass and they will fully complement the appearance of the new embankment.
