Tower of Death

The building of the Administration was built in 1949 — 1953 in style of "Stalin monumentalism" on the project of the architect M. A. Pareleshin. The angular tower with the capstan end has something in common with a bell tower of the Cathedral on the Kama bank.

The building was going to be the main building of the Perm University (in the post-war years there was a project of transferring the university to the city center). After the completion of the building the owner of the "Tower" became the State Security Committee. Perm citizens told lots of terrible stories about the building: underground passages, chambers of torture, executions... As a result, this building got its "proper name" — " The Tower of Death”.
