The natural park "Bazhovskiye Places" is a specially protected natural area of regional importance 60 km south of the city of Yekaterinburg. The park was created on April 4, 2007 in order to preserve natural complexes and develop ecological and educational tourism. Its territory covers 40,000 hectares of the forest fund of the Sysert leshoz, a federal state institution.
Park "Bazhovskie Places" is named in honor of the famous Ural writer Pavel Bazhov, who described his native land, its history and traditions, in his tales. Here, in the city of Sysert, there is also the Bazhov House-Museum - the manor of the factory worker Sysert.
The park is in the valley of the river Sysert. In general, this is an elevated area with hills and low mountains at a height of 200 to 400 meters. The geology of the area is diverse: most of the park's territory lies within the ancient Sysertian middle mass, composed of the most ancient rocks. In the tale "Tayutkino mirror" Bazhov used reliable geological facts: in the mine's bottom a natural "crooked mirror" was actually discovered - a brilliant, perfectly ground, polished sliding surface formed as a result of tectonic movements with strong mountain pressure.
On the territory of the park there are objects of geological exploration, deposits and manifestations of minerals. In the forests of the central part of the region, rare plant species grow.
There is a special regime for nature management. It is monitored by a special service - Natural Park Inspection. Its tasks include patrolling the territory, identifying and suppressing violations. The institution also pays much attention to the animal world: employees are working to increase the number and species diversity of wild animals.
Support and development of rich flora and fauna, special rules on the territory, extensive work on environmental education for young people (extracurricular lessons for schoolchildren) - all this is included in the activities and tasks of the natural park. However, the main task is to preserve natural complexes and develop ecological and educational tourism. The natural park "Bazhovskie Places" is engaged in the development of projects such as "Biosphere" - experiments on effective use of natural resources or "Second Life" - the use of secondary materials in the construction of the infrastructure of the natural park.
The park is unique in that it contains a large number of unusual objects of history, nature and culture.
