Irkutsk Academic Drama Theater N.P. Okhlopkova

The first building was built in Irkutsk in 1851. Throughout its history, the theater has gone through 3 fires. In 1897, construction was completed on a stone building designed by the chief architect of the Board of Imperial theaters V.A. Shreter. In 1997 - 99 years the building was reconstructed. It was the largest building in the region in the late 20th century. Today Irkutsk Drama Theatre is one of Russia's best in technical equipment.

Irkutsk academic drama theater of N.P.Ohlopkov is the pride of Irkutsk theatergoers. It was constructed under the project of architect V.A.Shreter in 1894-1897 in the classicism style on investments of wealthy citizens. Well-known Russian drama actors and opera singers were acted there: L.Sobinov, O.Kamionsky, N.Shevelyov, A.Davydov, V.Komissarzhevsky, A.Jablochkina, etc. Masterpiece of XIX th century art of building, the theater building became a "pearl" of city architecture. In 1995 the status of historical monument and cultural heritage of federal value had been given to the building. After the full reconstruction in 1999 the theater is equipped by the modern equipment, and become one of the best theaters in Russia.
